New Directions

I'm considering taking up blogging again, though with some new directions.

Life, right now, has me leading several small group Bible Studies and a worship team. As a result, i find myself doing a lot of Biblical Study. Gotta learn stuff if i'm supposed to teach it to people right?

So i thought it might be a good idea to pull together all of the stuff i'm currently studying, and write about it. In addition, i'll probably post links and recommend some of the teachers/preachers/blogs/recourses i've found helpful..

We'll see how long i keep this up.. haha..

Good evening my faithful readers! EMT training class is almost up. I've just got to take the final, finish up clinicals and then I'm cleared to take the National Registry exam. So cheers to that! It's been a pretty tough class, and I am NOT looking forward to the final, but I've been studying hard, so hopefully I'll be ready.

Heres a "stuff learned" list!

1. Death is hard to treat. So we (as EMS professionals) try to avoid that particular symptom.
2. The most common complication of a laceration to the jugular vein is an air embolism.
3. Always check for hypoglycemia if your patient appears drunk.
4. Always check for an exit wound if your treating a GSW.
5. If the steering wheel is deformed.. the patient probably hit it with his head.. which is bad.
6. Delivering a baby is messy.
7. Vomit comes in all the colors of the rainbow.
8. Try not to give a kid the adult does of epinephrine.
9. ALWAYS make sure the KED is propperly attached. It can, and will, lacerate off(thats O. F. F.) a nipple. Patients tend to get pissed and write up complaints when you lacerate off their nipples...

And thats it for now. I could continue on and on, and maybe I will later. For now, heres a picture of me and my stethoscope staying up late to study! ALSO! clinicals are soon, so hopefully I'll have some awesome stories to tell (I'll have to be slightly vauge for HIPAA 's sake, but I'll make it work) .

Well, EMT training is almost over with... i have a couple more classes, one more test, and then the final. Oh yeah, also the clinical rotations.

The clinical rotations consist of two shifts in the ER and two shifts on an ambulance. The shifts in the ER will probably be pretty annoying... hectic... and hopefully educational, but i'm really looking forward to the ambulance shifts.

My instructor told us all to bring food to the fire station for our first shift. apparently if the new guys don't bring food everyone will hate them forever. haha...

So, i'm gunna get back to studying. I've got to make a really good grade on this last test to try and bring up my average so i have some wiggle room on the final...

Gotta memorize the glasgow coma scale, the cincinatti stroke scale and the apgar scale... along with a bunch of other stuff.

Maybe i'll make another post soon about random stuff i've learned...

EMT Stuff Learned plus New Switchfoot Single

Well, its been a while since my last update, so here goes...

I've started EMT training, which so far has been pretty boring. However, on tuesday we start anatomy which shall prove more interesting.

So heres a list of things I've learned so far from class and my readings...
1. Procedures to avoid being contaminated by a patients bodily fluids (we assume all bodily fluids are potentially infectious)
2. Bleach and water (1:10 ratio) is the best way to clean out an ambulance rig...
3. The difference between implied consent and expressed conset.
4. What Dependent Lividity looks like...
5. How to palpate a blood pressure
6. Where to apply cricoid pressure

Somehow, my EMT book has reduced the entire human anatomy to a single chapter... which worries me a bit.. Here's hoping if i ever collapse and have a heart attack that paramedics respond.. not EMTs.

Also! in addition to fun EMT trivia, theres a new Switchfoot single floating around. I picked up my copy from the 89.7 radio station. It was taped to the front door. So now that i have the single, i'm supposed to copy it and hide the copy somewhere for other switchfoot fans to find. The original copy was hidden under a palm tree i believe...

anyways, its a good song! i'm pretty excited for the release of their new album.

So, yup... I'm gunna get some sleep, i have work in the morning, and then more studying to do. I have a test on tuesday. I should probably also work on college apps, and finding a job. We'll see if any of that actually happens though...hehe

update on current lack of aircon:

keeping cool with popsicles.

sadly... i'm begining to run out. if the a/c's not fixed by tomorrow, i'll be forced to buy more...

so firstly. new blog.

reason?

the name 'theclintorules' is obviously quite ridiculous and had to go.

on to the usual business...

well, today my parental units left. for the next four or so weeks they'll be traveling across the country asking people for money so i can continue to stuff my mouth with their food...

so, as i am here and they are not, i am solely responsible for here ...'here' being the house. so they're probably worrying about the inevitable happening. ...me accidentally crashing through a wall... breaking at least 3 windows... all before i burn the house to the ground.

so far only the aircon has died.

So yes... it is currently 93 degrees fahrenheit in my house right now..

these guys...
... are my best friends
